In the Spotlight:
Chris Christensen: Multi-Cultural Initiatives Chair Person
My name is Christen Christensen (Good Danish name). I am originally from Driggs, Idaho or the other side of the mountains from Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Upon graduating from high school I lived in Scotland for two years on a church mission. I attended Idaho State University and received my B.S. degree in Elementary Education. I decided I couldn't handle that age group so I went immediately into a Masters degree program in Higher Education at Texas A&M University. At that institution I stumbled across an assistantship in financial aid, and it sucked me in! After graduating from there I was hired at Kansas State University as an Assistant Director and have thoroughly enjoyed this experience. I have had additional responsibilities in Admissions and Student Life at K-State which has opened my eyes to a whole different world of work. I am also working on my PhD in Higher Education Administration at K-State.
One of my greatest loves is my family. My wife, Rachel, and I have four children (Zachary, Paisley, Ayden, Kaleb). I also enjoy cooking, cooking, and did I mention cooking. I dream of owning my own restaurant (I don't know what financial aid will do for me there - maybe I will find the connection). I like to read long novels, camping and outdoor cooking (big surprise).
I have enjoyed the association I have had with RMASFAA. I have served as the Vice-Chair for the MultiCultural Initiatives Committee and am currently serving as Chair as that committee. I am also active in KASFAA and serve on various committees. It is comforting to know so many good people throughout the region who are mentors and resources for the profession.
