In the Spotlight:
Getting to Know NeASFAA's President: Paula Kohles
"Helping the students and parents."
That's what NeASFAA's President Paula Kohles finds the most rewarding in her position as Assistant Director of Financial Aid at Creighton University. Often prospective students have little or no understanding of the financial aid process, making Kohles give a little more of her time. Giving time is something she has no problem giving.
After starting her career as a work-study student in the University of Nebraska at Lincoln's financial aid office, she finished her work-study career at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. After graduation, she worked as a financial aid counselor at University of Nebraska at Omaha. Paula has been at Creighton for seven years.
Life is busy in the Kohles' household. Connor (3 yrs) and Megan (1 yr) keep Paula and her husband, Glenn, on their toes. If she finds time in her busy schedule she enjoys working on her children's scrapbooks and counted cross-stitch. Paula is the co-chair of the Parent Advisory Council for the Russell Child Development Center. The committee's biggest event is the chili luncheon and silent auction. Last year the group raised approximately $6,000 towards playground equipment at the daycare.
In between family, work, and the Parent Advisory Board, Paula volunteers for both RMASFAA and NeASFAA. She has chaired NeASFAA's Membership and Special Projects Committee. She has also served as secretary, President of NeASFAA and a member of the Professional Development Committee. Her RMASFAA duties have included being both a member and chair of the Publications Committee, on the board as NeASFAA' s President and a member of the site committee for the 1996 RMASFAA fall conference in Omaha.
Her involvement has brought many great contributions to both RMASFAA and NeASFAA. We appreciate her time and efforts she has performed for both organizations and look forward to all her future insights and contributions that she will make.
