South Dakota
Jay Larsen, Director of Financial Aid at South Dakota State University, and his wife Kathy were among those who were honored with the Noel Olson Volunteer of the Year award during the NCC Honor Award Dinner on Sunday, May 19th. The award is presented to honor individuals who, as a volunteer, have made significant contributions to the NCC as a whole.

Mandy Mollman joined South Dakota State University as a financial aid counselor in March. She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota-Morris. Mandy is married to Preston and they have a son, Max.

Carolyn Halgerson has been promoted to Account Manager for North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa in the Student Loan Division of Citibank.

David and Starla Russell are the proud parents of a new daughter! Julia Katherine Russell was born on the morning of June 18th and weighed in at 9 lbs 8 ozs!! Starla is the Financial Aid Director at Western Dakota Technical Institute.

North Dakota
Sandy Klein, Director of Financial Aid at Dickinson State University, received the CSCC Region VIII "Open Heart, Helping Hand Award." This award, sponsored by the Children's Services Coordinating Committees, recognized Sandy for her volunteer work and involvement with 4-H, the multi-county Rabbit/Poultry Seminar and Fun Show, Marketplace for Kids, and Youth Activity Day.

Laurie Weber, Financial Aid Counselor at Minot State University, received the Staff Achievement Award.

Colorado
Shelley Pollock of the Community College of Denver reports that CCD is pleased to announce two new staff members have joined them. July Torres, who is a graduate of University of Northern Colorado, accepted the positon of Financial aid advisor and will be responsible for loans. C.J. Chapman joins the staff as a Financial aid advisor. C.J. is a graduate of East High School in Denver and a graduate of Princeton University. CCD is so excited to add these two staff, they are great.

Rick Willis of Fort Lewis College reports that FLC just hired a financial aid counselor Diana Longwell on June 5th. Diana comes to FLC from California where she worked for 17 years in higher education at two schools; the University of California at Davis for 11 years and most recently, 6 years at California State University at Chico. Her qualifications for an entry level financial aid professional position are excellent and we are excited to have her on our staff.

Tammy Dybdahl of the University of Denver reports that Kathy Mitchell, the Assistant Director, has decided to remain home with her daughter, Sidney, but will continue part time with the Office. Siobhan Roder-Cox, DU's Scholarship Coordinator, recently resigned to adopt a son, Jason (from Russia) and stay home with him. The DU Financial Aid staff wants everyone to share with us the joy these families are experiencing with these new additions to their families.

Kansas
Chris Christensen has resigned his position at Kansas State University to take a position in the Texas A&M University financial aid office. His last day at K-State was June 21st.

Marla (McClure) Sexson, former Director of Financial Aid at Newman University and her husband Brad are the proud parents of a new baby girl, Jordyn Elizabeth. Parents and baby are doing fine.

Tiffani Smith, Financial Aid Counselor from Butler County Community College was married on May 11th to Dewey Price. He is the graphic designer at Butler County in the PR department. Congratulations to the happy couple.

Anne Norwood has been named the Director of Financial Aid for Sterling College. Ann's husband is the Sterling Baseball Coach. Anne is a graduate of Richmond College in London with a degree in International Business and minors in accounting, finance and marketing. She previously worked in banking before coming to Sterling as an Admissions Counselor.

Suzanne Hille graduated from Washburn University with her bachelor's degree in May and her last day of work in the Financial Aid Office was June 11th. Suzanne has been with the Financial Aid Office since May of 1998 and worked with the Pell Grant program.

Dotti Fisher, Student Employment Coordinator, will retire from the Financial Aid Office at Washburn on July 19th, 2002. Dotti has been a loyal Washburn fan attending many of the sporting events throughout the year.

Congratulations to Donna Carter who has been promoted to Associate Director of Financial Aid for Wichita State University. Donna replaces Penny James and was most recently Assistant Director for Systems at WSU. A search will be conducted for Donna's replacement.

Jessica Ayres, Wichita State University, has been hired as the new Financial Aid Counselor/Loans. Jessica replaces Jason DeLos Santo who left the position in May to go to law school. Welcome Jessica!

Nancy Sells, Wichita State University, has been hired as the Senior Administrative Assistant/Loans. This position was formerly held by Angel Mejia who has left the position to return to school full-time. Nancy most recently was a Customer Service Representative in the Office of Financial Aid.

Deb Byers, Director of Financial Aid for Wichita State University, was recognized in May as one of six individuals to receive the President's Award for Distinguished Service at WSU for 2002.

Janet Emch, Administrative Assistant in Financial Aid, has been selected as the Classified Employee of the Year at Emporia State University.

Dora Galvan, Client Services Coordinator in the USA Funds Services-Kansas Office was awarded a USA Funds "There for you" award. Several clients who see Dora as being "invaluable to our financial aid offices" made the nomination for the award. Up to 10 of these awards may be given each quarter. Congratulations, Dora.

Julie Esau, formerly with NSLP, has joined The College Board.

Johnson County community announces several changes. Marjorie Zimmerman has joined them is the new Administrative Assistant. Debbie Kelly is a new Advisor and Trish Johnson is working with processing. Julie Cooper, Director, says they are enthusiastic and ready to work. A search in being conducted for a replacement for Linda Gill, Financial Aid Processing Officer, who decided to stay home for a while.

Montana
Montana State University - Bozeman has 4 new employees: Mandy Hansen - Perkins/Nursing Loan assistant, Van Gray - document tracking, Beth Littlefield - office manager and Shelley Prout - work study assistant. Van and Mandy are new to financial aid. Beth and Shelley are former fin aid work-study students. Heather Lander, loan administrative support, is graduating from MSU-Bozeman in August with a degree in Business/Finance. She walked through the graduation ceremony in May, but will actually receive her BS degree at the end of summer term after she completes one more class. We are very proud of her!

Mary Holden accepted a new position as Module Team Lead for the Billings, Bozeman, Great Falls, and Havre campuses. She left her position at MSU-Billings on May 30 and began her new position for MSU-Bozeman on June 1! She will still live in Billings however.

Nebraska
Jennifer Wurth has resigned as Director of Financial Aid at Clarkson College. Her last day was May 17th. We wish her luck in her future endeavors.

Pam Shelton - New Director of Student Financial Services at Clarkson College (previously worked in Financial Aid office at Dana and UNO, currently at Dana in the Admission's office).

Maria Zellmer, Financial Aid Counselor at Grace University, Omaha, and her husband, Isaac, have just bought their first house. They have been married just under two years. The house, built in 1888, is just a block from First Baptist Church, Omaha, where Maria also serves as Music Minister.

Kandi Lehmann (counselor), Bellevue University, just got married on 5/18/02. Engagements are in the air at Vatterott College - Sarah Orange and Kim Perry have both recently become engaged.

Jamie Hugelman, Vatterott College, is expecting a baby.

Ted and Candy Fellers became grandparents again on March 18th. Grace Kathryn Usher weighed in at 6 lbs. 14 ozs. and 21 inches long. Cutest little thing you've ever seen according to grandpa!

Treve Florom is the new Outreach Manager for EducationQuest Foundation based out of North Platte.

Ryan Stamm is the new College Planning Specialist for the EducationQuest Foundation - Omaha location.

Christine Denicola is the new Vice President of Scholarships and Grants for the EducationQuest Foundation.

Linda Trotty of Bellevue University has been promoted to Assistant Director of Financial Aid.

Angela Miller at UNMC has been promoted to Assistant Director. She took over Tammy Reece's job when Tammy left. Angie is a great asset to the office and she will do the financial aid industry a great service by being the professional that she is. Congratulations Angie.

Wyoming
Stacee Hanson, Western Wyoming Community College, has a new little boy -congratulations. Western also has a number of new employees - Steve Davis, Financial Aid Officer; Mary Hautala, Financial Aid Assistant, and Adrinne Plemel, Financial Aid Technician - welcome.
