  Wells Fargo Promotes Peterson, Benson to Sales Directors,
 Restructures Central Sales Region

SIOUX FALLS, SD, June 20, 2002 - Wells Fargo Education Financial Services (EFS), one of the nation's leading student loan providers, is pleased to announce the promotions of Account Executives Wade Peterson and Maurice Benson and the restructuring of its central sales region.

Peterson has been promoted to Assistant Vice President and North Central Region Sales Director. Benson was promoted to Assistant Vice President and South Central Region Sales Director.

The new North Central Region will consist of North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas, and Utah. The new South Central Region will consist of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Previously, one central sales region encompassed both territories.

"Both Wade and Maurice are high-performing individuals with strong leadership skills," said Beth Dinndorf, senior vice president and director of sales and marketing. "Their commitment to Wells Fargo and to outstanding customer service is exceptional. We are fortunate to have them on our team."

"Creating a North Central Region and a South Central Region recognizes the unique needs of both markets," continued Dinndorf. "This improved market focus will help us ensure continued growth in both regions."

Peterson, a Wells Fargo team member since 1994, joined Wells Fargo EFS in 1997 as the Account Executive responsible for the Nebraska and Kansas markets. Peterson was promoted to Senior Account Executive in 2001. He holds bachelor's degrees in Commercial Economics and Agricultural Economics, both from South Dakota State University.

Benson has spent most of his career in the student loan industry, starting at Greater East Texas Higher Education in 1992. He worked for St. Edwards University and Guaranty Federal Bank prior to joining Wells Fargo EFS in January 2002 as the Account Executive responsible for the Houston and Louisiana markets. Benson is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor's degree in Economics.
