  In the Spotlight:
Jeanne Adkins becomes CSLP Director

"I'm excited about the opportunities that I see for the Colorado Student Loan Program, as this agency continues to build on its excellent reputation and partnerships in the State of Colorado," CSLP's new Director Jeanne M. Adkins says with enthusiasm and certainty.

Since becoming director on January 28, 2002, Adkins has been meeting with financial aid administrators around the state to hear their views and opinions. From these meetings, she says, "We will continue to focus on innovations in technology and service for our customers."

Adkins notes with a sense of pride the joint accomplishment of CSLP and the Colorado Commission on Higher Education with the launch of ColoradoMentor on February 1. The site provides one-stop shopping for students enrolling in college, and is an example of Adkins' direction: "Our customer is first and foremost, the student enrolling in the institution, and ensuring that each one has the necessary resources to make his or her dreams a reality."

When discussing customers, including schools and lenders, "We want to be easy-to-do-business-with", she said. "We're adding e-signatures this April to StudentLoanOnLine and giving it an entirely new look. ColleaGen is adding new disbursement reports and change capabilities at the same time, and we've just deployed an entirely new approach to CSLP.org-all to make things easier and more convenient for our customers. And there's more to come."

Adkins has worked with the State of Colorado in numerous positions including, most recently, as director of policy and planning for the Colorado Department of Higher Education. She has extensive experience in coordinating policy development and budget planning for Colorado's state operated higher education institutions. Adkins also implemented CCHE's press relations and external communication programs.

Adkins is well versed on the state legislative process, having served from 1989 to 1999 as an elected representative to the Colorado General Assembly for Douglas County. She chaired the House Judiciary, Legislative Legal Services, and served on the Appropriations, Education, and Finance committees.
