Rocky Mountain Summer Institute 2002 -
Peak Performance
As you have been reading the Torch Run Updates on RMASFAA-L for past few months, you realize that we are using the Olympics and the theme "Peak Performance" for this year's Institute. Our mystery torch runner has been making his/her way through each of the eight RMASFAA states before arriving at the final destination -- Colorado Springs. The RMASFAA Summer Institute Committee would like to extend an invitation for you to join us May 31- June 7, 2002 on the campus of Colorado College to find out who is our mystery torch runner.
Again this year, our pre-institute workshop will be an intense weekend emphasizing Professional Development and Leadership. Skills learned will benefit attendees in their offices, on their campuses, in their community work and in their involvement in their state associations, RMASFAA and NASFAA. Join us in learning some of those indispensable concepts necessary for career growth and satisfaction.
Our topic for this year's Intervanced track is "Legal Issues." Some of the sessions will be covering include; the Legislative Process, Communicating with your Legislators, the Role of Professional Associations in the Legislative Process, How to Influence the Legislative Process, History of Financial Aid and relevant Legislation, and Reauthorization from A to Z. The attendees will learn everything they ever wanted to know about the legislative process but were afraid to ask.
Our Neophyte track has an excellent group of instructors signed up! Our 2002 Neophyte faculty is: Teri Dorchuck (UT) and Mary Sommers (NE), Cristi Easton (UT) and Robert Gamez (KS), Deana Unger (NE) and David Vikander (SD), Mick Hanson (MT) and Annita Huff (KS), Ruben Guererro (CO) and Sue Weinreis (MT) and alternate Jeanne Mott (KS). After a week of intense training in the financial aid basics, our Neophyte attendees will be amazed at the knowledge they have gained.
A compelling schedule has been developed in our Student Loans Professionals track. Speakers include Dallas Martin, NASFAA, Brett Lief, NCHELP, Russ Judd, Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation, Michael Sutphin, Sallie Mae, Mark Putman, CSLP, Tom Melecki, NSLP and Terry Muilenburg, USA Funds. The Loan Pros will be attending informative sessions, as well as having a great time.
We are very excited that NASFAA is offering their Best Practices Symposium in conjunction with our RMASFAA Summer Institute. This is the first year that NASFAA has offered this symposium. Sessions will focus on three areas: Enrollment Management, Legal Issues and E-Commerce Customer Service. It is exciting to have this training opportunity for our most experienced financial aid professionals.
Of course, Summer Institute is not all work and no play. Scheduled activities include a dinner and Olympic Mixer; a magician - "The Mystic Maji"; and a tour of Seven Falls and Garden of the Gods, movie rentals each evening, daily morning walks. There will even be some time to relax, visit local attractions and network with colleagues.
The Institute is one of the premier training seminars in the country where you can learn and associate with peers in a friendly and challenging atmosphere. You'll meet friends old and new, plus acquire new skills all in one of the most beautiful locations in the West. Take a peek at what Institute 2002 has to offer you!
