Michael
Amaloo is a Senior Client Relations Manager for EDFUND. His role
is to be the main point of contact for schools within the Rocky
Mountain region – excluding Kansas. That is the official
title and brief job description given to him by his place of employment.
For those of us in RMASFAA who have worked with Michael, we might
just crown him with a title of “Jack of All Trades,”
“The Point-Guard,” or possibly “The Go-To-Man.”
Michael has 27 years of experience working in the student loan
industry. He has experience at the banking level, the college
financial aid office level, and also at the guarantee agency level.
Michael has worked for EDFUND for the last 5 years of his long
and varied career.
I asked Michael what it was that he liked about his job and he
replied, “I love to visit with the financial aid folks at
the schools. I enjoy helping them to resolve issues – it
pleases me when I can offer a solution to whatever is going on.
I want to be looked upon as a resource. I love just being involved
in RMASFAA and being around its members.” Involved is putting
it lightly when looking at Michael’s agenda. He is very
involved in associations at the state and regional level. With
such a full work agenda, it is hard to think that he has any free
time at all. “Doing financial aid for almost 27 years from
the school to lender to guarantor side, I have to say that it
never becomes routine – never boring or old. I love the
dynamics of the occupation. I am constantly learning something
new.” Both learning and teaching has been a cornerstone
of his career. Last year, Michael was the Associate Track Dean
with RMASFAA’s Summer Institute and a member of the RMASFAA
Conference team in Colorado and will be the incoming chair of
the Association News Committee for 2009.
Michael and his wife of two years, Cyndy, are happily living
in Parker, Colorado. He has two sons, Jason and Collin. Jason
and his wife Kathryn welcomed a daughter (Jaina) into their home
a year ago and live in Augusta. GA. Collin, like many 21-year-olds,
is on a “path of discovery” and enjoying life in Victoria,
TX. Michael’s hobbies include a new passion for poker (watch
out World Poker Tour...) golf, and travel. He and his wife Cyndy
spent three weeks in Norway last year and have plans to do a 3-4
week tour of Southeast Asia next year. |
