Greetings from the RMASFAA President
By Sally Crow Schuman

Sally SchumanGreetings from RMASFAA!

I just returned from yet another wonderful RMASFAA Summer Institute at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. This year’s SI was highlighted by record attendance, near-record heat, premier networking, and the best training around.

Along with the committees I highlighted in the spring issue of the Rocky Mountain Exchange, four other RMASFAA committees have been diligently working for you. Pam Palermo and her Training Committee have been working hand-in-hand with NASFAA and the states to prepare for this fall’s Decentralized Training on the topic of Verification. They have decided to delay the scheduling until late fall to accommodate the U.S. Department of Education’s update sessions on HERA. We look forward to wrapping up the fall training season with Decentralized Training’s high-quality sessions.

Amy Capps and her Conference Committee are tackling all of the details to make our fall RMASFAA Conference the highlight of our year. Please join us in October in Salt Lake City, where the only things more breath-taking than the surrounding mountain peaks are the educational, net-working, and entertainment opportunities that the Conference Committee has planned.

With Annette Mello taking a position outside of financial aid, Debra Reed has stepped up to serve as the Diversity and Multicultural Initiatives Committee Chair. Her committee is very busy planning our annual service fund-raiser to be held in conjunction with the Fall Conference. Thurl Bailey, our opening speaker, will be working with RMASFAA to raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which grants life-long wishes to terminally ill children. Keep your eyes open for announcements from Debra and her crew regarding the activities to raise money for this cause that is so important.

Anthony Lyons, our RMASFAA Vice President, is chairing an ad hoc committee to analyze and update our association’s Core Values. Please support this committee when they call on you and your state associations to complete surveys and participate in discussions.

Thank you so much for the overwhelming hospitality you have shown me at your state conferences. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in October.

Best regards,

Sally Crow Schuman
RMASFAA President
