Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is my sad duty to inform you of the passing of Oscar R. "Jack"
Hendrix. Jack served as Director of Student Personnel and Guidance
at the University of Wyoming from 1948 1964. In effect, he was
the first director of student financial aid at our institution.
Because of his keen interest in providing assistance to university
students, he was instrumental in helping to establish the profession.
He was a founding father of the Rocky Mountain and Wyoming Associations
of Student Financial Aid Administrators. He was also a member
of the committee which helped develop the original Uniform Methodology
by working the the College Scholarship Service and other entities
to identify a means of determining appropriate family contributions
to a student's educational costs.
He was a fine southern gentleman who found his way to Wyoming
for a while before returning to his home state. He was an inspiration
to many early financial aid administrators and thus RMASFAA named
it's Rookie of the Year award after Jack Hendrix.
