Kansas Report – Anthony Lyons, KASFAA President

My View from Dodge City
By Anthony Lyons, KASFAA President

We have another great spring conference coming up April 6-8, 2005 at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Topeka. Myra Pfannenstiel and her committee have been working hard to insure that we get the most for our money.

Have you seen our new website? That’s what I’m talkin about! (I had to force my processor to accept “talkin”. I hate it when my computer tries to correct the stuff that I really want.) Isn’t our new website fantastic? Carol Williams and her committee have done a really fine job with the transition to ATAC. It’s all about communication.

We have just completed a KASFAA Core Values Identification Exercise. I have begun tallying the data and I plan to present it to the KASFAA Board at the spring conference.

Marion Jones and the College Goal Sunday Committee produced another truly successful financial aid event on February 13, 2005. This is one of the most fun committees we have in KASFAA. All of the chairs have poured their hearts into this project. It has been a thrill to watch them each year with all of their enthusiasm and dedication. They have set a pace that will keep us on our toes.

President Bush is scaring me to death with his proposed budget and all of the cuts that it carries. We are going to have to be diligent during the coming months and stay in touch with our Congressional delegation. We need to keep the heat on them on behalf of our students. I urge you to use any influence you may have to promote strong financial aid programs for the future.

From Dodge City, I want to wish all of you a happy and healthy spring holiday season.

Anthony Lyons
President, KASFAA
