  Committee Updates:
Association Governance – By Mary Sommers

November 18, 2004

As past RMASFAA President, it is my privilege to Chair the Association Governance Committee. Association Governance is responsible for making sure our By-Laws and Policies and Procedures are updated and correct. We would organize any strategic planning the Association might want to do. We often get “other duties” as assigned by the President as well!

Members of the Association Governance Committee for 2005 are as follows:

Current Officers
  • Mary Sommers – Past President, Chair
  • Peg Mason – President
  • Sally Schuman – President-Elect
  • Sharon Kienow – Vice President
Prior Presidents
  • Jim Swanson – Colorado College
  • Darry Voigt – Casper College
  • Joan Zanders – Northeast Community College

Typically, the five most recent Presidents serve on Association Governance. However, as many of you know, Wilma Kasnic, who was our President in 2001, has retired.

Association Governance met during the Fall conference. We have several important issues we will be working on over the next year. The biggest issue involves a review of the giving levels for our associate sector partners. We’ll be providing updates on this process to the Board of Directors during their Winter board meeting. We also will consider some minor adjustments to the Policies and Procedures Manual. Last year’s Association Governance Committee did a major rewrite on the P & P, so we will hopefully only have modest changes for this year.

Any of the members of the Association Governance Committee would be happy to answer questions or discuss any concerns you might have about the way RMASFAA conducts association business. Don’t hesitate to contact any of us.
