RMASFAA Summer Institute 2004: A “Golden” Opportunity

A rejuvenated and exciting Summer Institute was held June 6 – 11, 2004, at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, using the slogan “A Golden Opportunity”. We made several changes this year that proved beneficial for participants.

We were very impressed with the beautiful Colorado School of Mines campus, and the CSM staff worked very had to make sure our needs were met. This new location was good for our members, and the facility is an excellent site with plenty of room for classes and breakouts sessions.

Training went very well. We had five first-time faculty members, all of whom did a wonderful job. Tracks were identified by gem names, and offered participants choices in focus to fit their needs. Jeanne Mott provided her “Packaging” and “Cashopoly” trainings as in years past. Dr. Michael C. Kearl, Professor and Chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas gave the closing address on The Cycle of American Generations.

The SI Faculty provided a quality learning atmosphere for the NASFAA Core materials, new tools to increase student access to higher education, and new ways to enhance student service in our offices. We also enjoyed planned evening activities, nights on our own, and making new friends.

We had 144 participants in addition to the Committee and Faculty. Participants came from all 8 RMASFAA states, as well as Florida, Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma, Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota.

The new instructional format required a real team effort. The whole committee worked well together to pull off a wonderful Institute. We successfully met the huge challenges of a totally new curriculum, a new site, along with accommodating a number of issues from past evaluations.

Thank you to all of our dedicated SI Committee members, instructors, and participants!!!
