I was a little nervous about attending the NASFAA Leadership Conference in Washington
D.C. in early March. Okay, I was really nervous! Little did I know that it would
be one of the most incredible experiences that I have had thus far in financial
aid. I learned so much. I networked. I went to the NASFAA office. I met Dallas
Martin! The highlight of the trip, for me, was meeting with the aides of my state
Senators and discussing the issues with which our students and our institutions
are currently dealing.
I left Washington feeling like I had taken the first step toward fulfilling
one of the responsibilities of an association leader - lobbying for change
on a topic that is near and dear to my heart. One in which I strongly believe…providing
students with the resources necessary to fund a college education. I was exposed
to ideas that I had never considered, made some wonderful connections and came
away with wonderful NASFAA resources that I know I will refer to many times
during my year as an association President.
I would definitely say that attending this conference is a “must” for
those preparing to serve in leadership roles within their state associations.
Thanks WyASFAA for recognizing the benefits of this conference and for sending
me!
