Speechless
At this year's annual conference an honor was bestowed on me that literally left me speechless, the Distinguished Service Award. For those of you that have known me for any length of time, know that doesn't happen very often. For years I have watched the many professionals that have received the various RMASFAA awards in awe, never guessing that some day I would be one of those professionals. I now know that although we work hard we are only doing what we love, helping to make it easier for students to go to school. If you have not been involved in one of the state, regional and national aid associations I encourage you to do so. We do not possess any special skills other than a willingness to serve.
I have been involved in the financial aid profession for over 12 years now and RMASFAA almost as long. From my first RMASFAA experience, Summer Institute, many folks have gone out of their way to be my mentors and more importantly my friends. I wish I could individually thank each of you, but inevitably someone would be left off that list so I will not even try. Each of you knows who you are and I thank you with all my heart.
I would however, be amiss if I did not thank some key people that make it possible for me to be involved in RMASFAA. A big thank you goes out to Roger Koester and Mary Davis. They have encouraged me to be involved and allowed me the time away from the office to accomplish numerous professional and personal goals. Many times we hear about the 'woman behind the man.' In my case it's the 'man behind the woman.' My husband of almost 22 years, Ferril, holds down the fort while I am away and on occasion even joins me at a conference. I couldn't do it without you sweetheart!
Thank you so much for your continued support and friendship.
