  In the Spotlight:
Jim Swanson

Jim Swanson has been involved in the financial aid profession for twenty-four years having begun his career at Eastern Montana College in Billings, Montana. He served that institution for ten years as Director of Financial Aid before moving to Atlanta, Georgia to work in the College Board Southern Regional Office. In 1990, Jim transferred to the College Board Western Region as the Associate Director of Financial Aid Services in their Denver, Colorado Office where he worked closely with high school counselors and financial aid administrators primarily in the Rocky Mountain and Western States.

In the fall of 1993, Jim became the Director of Financial Aid at Colorado College, a national private liberal arts college in Colorado Springs and continues to serve students and parents at that institution for the past eight years. He has been deeply involved in state, regional and national financial aid associations as well as serving on the College Board's College Scholarship Service National Council and Western Regional CSS Assembly. He was chair of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) Need Analysis Standards Committee during the last reauthorization debate. Jim has recently been elected as President-elect to the Rocky Mountain Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (RMASFAA).

When he is not solving crisis in the world of financial aid and in his "spare" time, he enjoys dancing, photography, playing bells at church (his is a real ding-a-ling), being a dad of two college students, the outdoors and attempts to participate in most sports.
